Felt like it was time to show some appreciation for all of the conventions, card shows, comic cons etc. as I attend them.
After a return to last year's Ottawa ComicCon, a friend suggested he'd never been to Fan Expo, and that was a great excuse to take a trip and show him the ropes.
It's been a few years since I hit one of these, and it was as packed and busy as usual. I took a lesser approach to prep, comics to sign etc. but still ended up with a crazy busy weekend.
I just happened to be in Edmonton visiting family when this convention happened. Of course that meant I had to find some time to check it out.
Not surprisingly it's much smaller than Toronto, but a solid set of vendors and some great cards available on the show floor even on the Sunday.
I'm back to making this a regular trip like I did back in my younger days. No longer have to compete with the kids schedules to get the weekend free.
I setup at this show with my good friend QuincyCards, and it's really about hanging out with long time hobby friends, plus some buying, selling, trading through the weekend.
I hadn't dropped in on this show before, but with Free Admission, it was worth a look see, especially as I'm looking at options for shows to sell at in the future. Seemed like a very busy show, and good vendor selection, I'll be back.
Not much to say here, this is by far my most regular show, and mainly because it's less about shopping and more about the "guys weekend" hanging out with many long time hobby friends.
There's always some buying-selling-trading mixed in, but it's always just a fun weekend to hang out with like minded individuals.
I hadn't been to the Ottawa Show in a few years and wasn't even sure if I was going until the Saturday morning when I finally made the decision.
Key guest for me was Summer Glau for my Firefly collection, but I was also keen to visit Tattoos by Pickles and see about getting my first tattoo.
